About Cyprus

Cyprus, the third largest Island in the Mediterranean Sea lies in the North eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea, and covers an area of 9300 square kilometers. The capital of the Island is Nicosia. The other major cities of the Island are Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos.

Cyprus, the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, Goddess of love and beauty, is today an island of great diversity, combining western bustle and eastern calm. It has a marvelous climate with an average of 340 days of sunshine per year, fine beaches, vine-covered hillsides and pine scented forests.
Visitors to Cyprus can bask on the sun-drenched beaches, swim in the dazzling blue sea in the morning, and (between December and March) visit the snow covered Troodos mountains for an afternoon's skiing.

The island offers the best of both worlds: Excellent cosmopolitan restaurants and nightclubs, famous wines, beaches where one can sail, windsurf or water-ski and facilities for all kinds of sports such as tennis and horse-riding. Alternatively one can visit quiet mountain villages, seemingly untouched by the twentieth century.

Furthermore, 28 hundred years of history and culture, have left Cyprus a heritage rich in historical and artistic treasures -- Byzantine monasteries, ruins of Greek and Roman monuments and Venetian castles.

Foreign residents have many reasons for choosing Cyprus as their base: Its strategic geographical position in the Eastern Mediterranean means that all the major cities of Europe, the Middle East and North Africa are just within a few hours flight. Living conditions are extremely pleasant and relatively inexpensive. One can enjoy a high quality of life among friendly people most of whom speak English and other languages.

The telecommunications system is excellent, offering direct dialing connection to most countries and telex connections to all parts of the world. Cyprus enjoys an advanced legal system based on the British tradition and all other institutions are modeled on current European standards.

The legal system in Cyprus has been mainly based upon the British legal system. Our Lands Registry in Cyprus is an advanced and reliable system thus making the purchase of property more secure with regards to the issue of title deeds.

When you come to live in Cyprus you will have left behind many friends. Never fear however, with the hospitality and friendliness of the Cypriots you will make many new friends. There is also a thriving international community right here in Paphos. Social events and sporting facilities will keep you entertained.

The official languages of the Republic of Cyprus are Greek and Turkish. The English language is widely spoken and used.
